Cara Engineering is inspecting construction sites and providing quality review, scheduling, and construction management services for 8 substations being constructed under the high-tension component bundle. Cara Engineering is overseeing the replacement of Transformers and Rectifiers at West 82nd Street Substation and West 99th Street Substation, the DC line up at Jamaica Yard Substation, and the High-Tension Switchgear for: 64th Road Substation; 55th Road Substation; Hulst Street Substation; East 165th Street Substation and Baychester Substation.

PANYNJ – PATH Substation 2- Port Authority of New York and New Jersey – On Site Traction Power Engineer

Cara Engineering, P.C. is supporting Port Authority EADD (Engineering & Architecture Design Division) as an on-site Traction Power Engineer reviewing submittals and designing PACCs for the PATH Substation 2 construction.

MTA C&D CBX001 Design-Build Services for Metro North Railroad Penn Station Access Project

Cara Engineering, P.C. is supporting the Systems Integration and Traction Power work for Penn Station Access. The $350 million project is to provide improved rail access to Penn Station New York and Manhattan’s West Side from southern Connecticut, Westchester County, and the Eastern Bronx. The design includes eleven substations, both new and enhancements to existing facilities for Amtrak and Metro-North Railroad/LIRR. The substations feature AC and DC Traction Power systems with medium voltage, overhead catenary, third rail distribution, and signal power.

NYCT CM-1575 Task Order #22 Repairs to 12 Circuit Breaker Houses, 3 Substations & 3 EDRs

Cara Engineering, P.C. is supporting the construction phase following the design and production of contract documents for the traction power and electrical systems in 12 Circuit Breaker Houses (CBHs) and supporting 3 substations medium voltage switchgear design. The CBHs are located throughout Brooklyn and Queens, above ground and in tunnel environments. The CBHs require replacement for circuit breakers, circuit monitoring, lighting, traction power, control, and battery cables. Equipment protection is also required where only the structure is being rehabilitated.

Design-Build Services for the Rockaway Line Resiliency and Rehabilitation – C35327 – Traction Power

Cara Engineering, P.C. designed the cable connections and staging at Hammels Wye for the new viaduct and the CBH at Beach 105 St for the newly configured Traction Power system as part of a design-build project. The $392 million project includes the design and construction of viaduct repairs at the Hammels Wye. Campus and along the east and west branches of the Rockaway Line. To minimize the effects of future storm events on transit infrastructure, resiliency and flood mitigation elements will be implemented. The project also includes the design and installation of a new signal tower, track crossover and related traction-power, signal system and utility components at the Beach 105th Street Station and the replacement of electrical and mechanical components of the South Channel Swing Bridge.

NYCT W 4th and Sutphin Blvd Escalators SC Arc Flash Coordination Study

Cara Engineering, P.C. prepared the Short Circuit, Arc Flash and Coordination studies for two high-traffic NYCT Stations, West 4th Street and Sutphin Blvd as part of a design-build team. The project will replace the 2 escalators at the West 4th St. - 8th Avenue Line station and the 4 escalators at the Sutphin Blvd-Archer Ave-JFK Airport station with new heavy-duty transit escalators that are suitable for 24-hour continuous operation.

PANYNJ - JFK Redevelopment - Port Authority of New York and New Jersey – On Site Electronics Engineer

Cara Engineering, P.C. is supporting Port Authority EADD (Engineering & Architecture Design Division) as an on-site electronics engineer reviewing submittals for the JFK Redevelopment program, developing presentations, and other relevant project tasks.

LIRR Contract 6392 - Installation of Foundations & Platforms for Signal Huts at Beaver Interlocking

Cara Engineering, P.C. designed the ground-grid for the new signal hut installation at Beaver Interlocking as part of a design-build project. We were responsible for overseeing the soil resistivity testing, performing calculations per IEEE 80-2013 for touch and step-potential, reporting the calculation results, and providing signed and sealed construction drawings for the grounding system.
